Constructed from a rug that a surprising number of people had growing up, Take a Trip’s new Rug Bags tap into a bit of nostalgia to create a beautifully unexpected set of bikepacking bags. Check them out here…

Readers of a certain age might recognize the iconic rug that Michael Bock of Bend, Oregon-based Take a Trip Bags recently repurposed to create a limited run of bikepacking and everyday bags. I certainly do, and I remember having some version of it as a kid. And, based on the overwhelmingly positive feedback his initial teasers have received over on Instagram, it seems many others who grew up in the United States around the same time did too.

Writing that he loves sewing with unconventional materials and that he “seems to have tapped into something universal with this one,” Michael has decided to raffle off the set of three frame bags, with half of all proceeds going to Trips for Kids, a non-profit that works to promote healthy, recreational lifestyles, environmental awareness, and personal empowerment for young people of all communities. Tickets are one for $5, three for $13, or five for $20, and he’ll draw a winner on October 30th. Entries are open worldwide.

Take a Trip will also be taking pre-orders for the Rug Totes at the end of this month or early next. They feature an inner snap pocket, hi-viz lining, padded bottom, matching shoulder strap, and zipper pouch. All of the bags in the Rug series are lined with 400D recycled bag cloth from Challenge Sailcloth and feature Cordura in high-abrasion areas.
