The first video in the Tallbike Tour series explores some of my background and history working with building bicycles and how I ended up on a wild worldwide trip.
On the 21st of January 2022, I left my home in England with the plan to reach Turkey by tallbike. I didn’t know at the time that this journey would become a world tour or that I’d end up adopting a puppy along the way. I took the ferry to Holland that evening and spent the next three months in Holland planning the route and preparing while doing Workaways. I also contacted as many other freakbikers and tallbikers across Europe as I could to try and meet up with as many as possible along the way.
The first day of the tour began at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, my “official” starting point for the tour and the place where I’d like to end the trip if I ever make it around the world. However, I’m not really on a tight schedule or strictly a circumnavigational goal. The tour is always open to improvement and change and is in constant fluctuation.
I met two fellow freakbikers who accompanied me into Utrecht and then spent two more days crossing The Netherlands before finally crossing into Germany. But then I was pulled over by the police—the episode ends on a cliffhanger here—something I didn’t know would happen in almost every country I would pass through in the coming year.
