Three years after debuting their first cargo bike model, the Unicorn, Ten07 Cycles out of Haarlem, the Netherlands, just announced a pint-sized follow-up, the Ten07 Unicorn Pony. Designed for city riders who want the utility of a cargo bike without the usual footprint, the modular Unicorn Pony reduces the wheelbase and platform size but maintains much of the Unicorn’s versatility and capability.
The original Unicorn’s key selling point was that it could fit into a narrow hallway thanks to its quick-release platform, and the Unicorn Pony takes the space-saving concept a step further in an agile, fun-to-ride package. In Ten07’s words, “It rides like a quick, nimble city commuter, but easily handles the groceries, the park gear, and the daily haul.” The front platform’s interchangeable base opens up options for hauling crates, baskets, bags, odd-shaped cargo, and more.
Ten07 took a one-size-fits-most approach to the Unicorn Pony’s design, offering it in a single size intended to suit riders from 1.5 to 2 meters (4’11” to 6’7”) tall. It can accommodate a payload of up to 50 kilograms (110 pounds), a rider weight of 100 kilograms (220 pounds), or a maximum combined load of 130 kilograms (287 pounds).
The frameset features a front dynamo light mount, front and rear internal dynamo routing, internal dropper and front derailleur routing, a 24-inch rear wheel and a 20-inch front wheel, three-pack mounts on the fork blades and downtube, rack and fender mounts, belt-drive compatibility, swappable thru-axle inserts on the fork (12 to 15mm), and double kickstand support. The frame and fork are made of ED-coated Chromoly steel, and the front rack is built from ED-coated 6061-T6 aluminum. The Unicorn Pony will clear a 70mm tire in the front and 65mm tire in the rear, or 55mm front/rear with fenders.
A frame kit costs €999 ($1,170), and standard complete build kits start at €2,249 ($2,640), including VAT. Ten07 is offering the Unicorn Pony in three colors: Confetti, Night Rider, and a limited-edition Raw. Pre-orders are open now for delivery in the fall.
