Over the last few decades, cycling has become divided in factions and various disciplines, which in some cases has polarized riders. The beauty that we find in bikepacking is that is transcends genres. Similarly, as Shimano points out in its latest film, gravel biking is another reunification—a reboot of what cycling was up until the mid-20th century, before asphalt and singletrack split the cycling scene. Watch Shimano’s reflection of the evolution of gravel as they chat with several small businesses that are capitalizing on this “new” segment of cycling…

Since the dawn of the bicycle… we’ve basically been gravel riding. We kind of lost our way for a couple decades as we diverged into road and mountain bike. And then suddenly in the last few years, we’ve found our way home.
