With Tubolito’s new smart tubes, checking your tire pressure with a gauge is a thing of the past. The Tubolito PSENS is the world’s first smart inner tube, relaying your tire pressure directly to your smartphone. Learn more here…

Just the other day I was thinking pressure gauges are so 2020, and knew there had to be a better way. It looks like Austria-based Tubolito are on the same page, as they’ve just introduced the world’s first smart inner tube. The Tubolito PSENS uses an NFC chip inside of the inner tube that quickly communicates to iOS and Android phones via the Tubolito app, displaying tire pressure in both Bar and PSI. The chip has no battery and uses a weak signal that requires the smart phone to be close (about 3cm) to the tire for the app to work.

The Tubolito PSENS comes in both 27.5″ and 29″ versions, for 1.8″ to 2.5″ tires, and weighs only about 5 grams more than the regular Tubolito mountain bike tube. The retail price is $49.90 USD and are available directly through Tubolito.us. Although it seems like a lot of technology to pack into something as simple as an inner tube—and with a price to match—we’re quite curious to try a PSENS tube out for ourselves and to see how the technology might be applied in future products.

If you’re not yet familiar with the brand, Tubolito makes inner tubes that weigh and pack down significantly smaller than traditional butyl tubes. Check out Logan’s thoughts on them here.
