Velo Orange’s classic mini-velo, the Neutrino, is back in a new colorway: Celery Green! With it comes a minor tweak and a major change for the Maryland-based company. While they’ve ditched the internal cable routing on the bike’s downtube in favor of cable guides, Velo Orange will also be offering the Neutrino as a complete bike. Though they’ve done so before, the company will have a distinct focus on made-to-order bikes in the coming year, with kits being ordered on a basis of demand.
With the Velo Orange Neutrino in Celery Green frame being a pre-sale, they’re offering folks the chance to pre-order the full build kit as well. Frames start at $825 USD, and full build kits go for $1,170–meaning the frame plus the kit comes in at just under $2,000 USD—completes will ship to the lower 48 for $1,995 USD.
The pre-ordering process offers a window into how smaller companies like Velo Orange operate. Obviously, pre-ordering the build kits gives them a better idea of how many need to be ordered. With larger companies, and direct orders, it’s easy to experience a distinct sense of removal from the industry. To try and offer some value while not sitting on a mountain of stock, the Neutrinos will be assembled at their facility in Glen Burnie, Maryland.
Owner-operator Igor Shteynbuk also took the time to run through the frame while building one up on the Velo Orange YouTube channel. I can’t comment on his interesting manner of coffee preparation, but its always nice to see the build process from Igor as the step-by-step process offer an unintentional guide for potential customers and home mechanics all the same.
