Wahoo jumps into the smartwatch game and announces its all-new ELEMNT Rival Watch, the first multi-sport product from an otherwise cycling-specific company…

I haven’t really considered using a watch for GPS tracking or navigation in the past. But, recently I’ve seen a couple friends doing just that, so Wahoo’s latest product caught my attention. The new ELEMNT Rival watch breaks (a little) from the bike-centric approach that the company has traditionally taken with its popular line of ELEMNT devices. Instead of being made only for cycling, the watch is truly a multi-sport device, embracing features to target runners and triathletes, in addition to competitive cyclists.

As far as I can tell, the Rival doesn’t have a screen for plug-and-play navigation, but it does have a few interesting features for tracking GPS data and training, including a barometric altimeter, significant battery life (24 hours in GPS mode and 14 days in watch mode), and functionality for collecting heart rate data and calorie information.

The Wahoo ELEMNT RIVAL watch retails for $379 and features a ceramic bezel and an ambient light sensor that automatically adjusts the backlight. Other features include an optical heart rate sensor, live tracking capabilities, and the same ELEMNT app integration as the Wahoo ROAM GPS computer that we’ve tested extensively.
