Today’s Weekend Snapshot features another three photos from backyard rides and campouts from our global community of bikepackers. In today’s edition, we catch up with readers who wrapped up the week with rides in Japan, Canada, and New Zealand. Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada
By El Jay
With spring around the corner and more daylight on your side, it’s a great time to start riding through the beautiful Yukon backcountry. I always get a good laugh at work when colleagues are talking about their snowmobile adventures and following an intrepid fatbiker’s tracks before turning around.
Nagano, Japan
By Tappei Yoshida (@otakuhouseorg)
We spent the weekend on a bikepacking and skiing trip to a hot spring. Because the hot springs are in the mountains, we could approach them bicycle at first, but eventually reached the goal by skis. The place we went is called a noyu (wild hot spring), and unlike general spa facilities, it’s an organic hot spring that spontaneously springs up in the mountains. Noyu is a Japanese combination word of no (wild) and yu (hot spring).
Poolburn Dam, Central Otago, New Zealand
By Sam Rice (@adventuresbycycle)
After a 31°C (88°F) climb through the Crawford Hills, the Poolburn Dam was a welcome sight. Central Otago is the driest part of New Zealand, and so swimming in the cool water was a dream come true!
Send Us Your Weekend Snapshot
We’ll be selecting three photos per week to feature in Weekend Snapshot. Send yours along for consideration, and if it’s selected, we’ll be in touch! Note: we prefer 3:2 ratio landscape oriented photos.
