Germany

My good friend and I went out for an overnighter in the Fichtel Mountains. Everything was packed for a nice camping trip, but the weather was not as expected. It turned out to be a relatively cold and rainy ride through muddy forests with foggy climbs. In the end, we decided to stay at a guesthouse, which was definitely the right choice with temperatures about zero degrees Celsius at night. It was still an awesome ride with stunning views and great atmosphere!

For the third year in a row, Justin, Nathan, and I loaded up rigid steel mountain bikes with camping gear and packrafting gear for our annual Klunk ‘n’ Float. As is becoming tradition, we came up with a last-minute plan that brought us to the mountain biking hub of Cumberland, where we pedalled on beautiful gravel roads around Comox Lake, paddled a river (a first for Klunk ‘n’ Float), and, after a mandatory three-hour hike-a-bike, sent it down singletrack back into town. Justin brought a fishing rod and caught two fish, Nathan proved that rim brakes are life, and we spent a stunning night huddled around a campfire feasting on shish kabobs and sausages.
Mongolia

I’ve been making my way around the Mongolia Steppe for a few weeks now, scouting new roads, hanging out with Nomadic families, and experiencing the incredible beauty of this country. The weather has been typical of Mongolia with some lovely sunny days, fierce headwinds, and some snow! I’ve had so many amazing camping spots, pitching the tent near nomads and their distinctive white yurts. They’re often quick to ride over on horseback and say hello to trade some of my dried fruit snacks for their homemade cured cheese or fermented milk (vodka). I first visited Mongolia five years ago, and to be back is a special feeling. This country is one of the best places in the world for bikepacking.
