After riding the Roam Scotland Rally 2022, we had a few days left before taking the ferry back to The Netherlands and Germany. We decided to cycle from Oban back to Edinburgh, where a beautiful road along the Orchy led us via Bridge Of Orchy into the mountains. Because of the mild temperatures and lovely light, we cycled until late in the evening, eventually setting up camp at the head of Loch Lyon just before sunset, where we enjoyed the views and our self-prepared meal. And of course, the following morning, a dip in the Loch!

Weekend Snapshot

On a recent weekend, our family dodged rain and storms to enjoy a wonderful overnighter in the Metolius River Basin. It’s an area we’ve visited many times in the past yet continue to string together new adventures in. As our son Max has grown, so too have the scope of the rides. This one stood out for the 2,000-foot (600-meter) climb from the river valley to the ridge line, which Max flew up and was waiting when his parents finally arrived.

Kicking off a monthlong biking and hiking trip (some times hiking with my bike) through Austria, Slovenia, Italy and Switzerland. I joined up with a section of BIKEPACKING.com’s West Loop to wind my way in to the Julian Alps, enjoying scenic views and plenty of river dips along the way.
