Ryan Van Duzer’s latest video, “What 20 Years of Bikepacking Has Taught Me,” highlights the lessons he’s learned across two decades of traveling the world by bike. Watch his thoughtful reflection in the 10-minute video below…
YouTuber Ryan Van Duzer recently shared a new video about his experiences as a bikepacker. In What 20 Years of Bikepacking Has Taught Me, Ryan speaks to the joys traveling by bike brings him and how it affects him and others for the better. More an impassioned reflection than an ordered list of pros and cons, it’s a soft, slow video that speaks to the broader impact of cycling and the positive effects it can have on our mental health.
Speaking to Ryan about his motivation for creating the video, he said, “It’s been a heartbreaking week in the USA. I find myself shifting between furious and scared (and feeling helpless). So I decided to create something beautiful, not just as an escape for me personally, but hopefully for others as well. I’ve always believed that there are way more good people than bad, and I still feel that way. This video encapsulates 20 years of riding my bike, connecting with nature, and meeting kind-hearted humans.”
Among other worthwhile sentiments in the video, Ryan says, “Bikepacking isn’t an escape from life, it’s a return to what matters. To simplicity, connection, and nature… When you roll back into the world you left behind, you carry that feeling with you. A little more patience, a little more kindness, a deeper sense of belonging.” It’s a valuable idea that provides perspective in a difficult time for many of us. Watch the video above.
