Built for artist Rintaro Shimoyama, this custom Yanagi Cycle Super Black Salamandra caught our eye with its distinctive lines, rich details, and no-nonsense mix of components. Find a peek at the dazzling creation from builder Koichi Iizumi of Kamagaya City, Japan, here…

Every now and then, I happen upon a bike that stops me in my tracks, and this custom creation from builder Koichi Iizumi of Yanagi Cycle in Kamagaya City, Japan, is one such rolling work of art. It’s bursting with unique details, unexpected angles, and charming touches. The bike was built for illustrator Rintaro Shimoyama, the co-founder of GHOOOST, who created the adorable Twist Flower cable wraps along with artist Mai Ohara. The final product combines Rintaro’s creative sensibilities with Koichi’s mastery of frame building and results in something that’s somehow both practical and outlandish and looks like a blast for city and country cruising.

Highlights include a custom truss fork, dynamo lighting, a Ron’s Bikes front bag, SimWorks Getaround handlebars, a well-worn Brooks saddle, reliable Shimano Deore/XT shifting, Avid BB7 brakes, Velocity rims, and several Twist Flowers. The frame is unpainted, which shows off the lovely fillets and rich details throughout. Interestingly, it features both disc and canti mounts in the rear.
