The Rhino Run is a 2,750-kilometer bikepacking race that starts in Plettenberg Bay, South Africa, and ends in Windhoek, Namibia. There are no aid stations, route markings, backup vehicles, or support along the way. The challenging route traverses some of the most impressive and unforgiving landscapes in South Africa, including the Cederberg and the Tankwa Karoo, and once riders hit Namibia, they traverse the Namib Desert and route D707, which is dubbed “Namibia’s Dream Road.”
Supported by Curve Cycling, Don’t Look Back is a film from Rae Trew-Browne/Outlaw Media that follows a handful of the riders at the inaugural Rhino Run in 2022. It is a story of grit, perseverance, and the resolve to never give up. The inaugural edition of the race featured an impressive international field of ultra-distance riders. Would the newcomers have what it takes to challenge the more established riders? Watch the full video below to find out.
Our friend Jesse Carlsson from Curve Cycling, an incredibly accomplished rider himself, covered the event for us last year, publishing two excellent reports from the field that covered the first eight days of the race, during which the lead riders finished. The team at Curve also put together daily video reports, which you can find embedded throughout his race reports in the Further Reading grid below.
The 2023 edition of the Rhino Run takes off from Plettenberg Bay on Wednesday, October 18th. Stay tuned for more!
