We’re doing it again! Good Night 2021 is a local overnighter challenge between December 25th and 31st that invites everyone to sleep under the stars, have a good night outdoors, and blissfully send off the year. Building and fostering the bikepacking community has always been at the core of our mission. Last year, we created an event to do just that: bring all of us together in spirit, despite the fact that we’d collectively been separated for one hell of a challenging year. Inspired by Rapha’s Festive 500—an annual campaign to motivate road cyclists to rack up 500 kilometers between Christmas and New Year’s Day—we came up with our own end-of-year challenge, one that’s accessible, bikepacking-friendly, and designed to encourage folks to venture into nature for a night within the same timeframe. It was quite popular last year, so we’re doing it again for Good Night 2021! This is an open invitation event that we hope will inspire our community to get out on a local, self-supported overnighter in the last week of the year to toast one another in spirit, sleep under the stars, have a good night outdoors, and bid farewell to the year.
Rules
Rule #1
Camp out with your bike between the 25th and 31st.
No restrictions apply. This year, we’re extending it so it’s open the last week of the year, from Saturday, December 25th until the 31st (make it a New Year’s celebration!). We’re well aware that many of you might be under COVID-19 restrictions, or even lockdown, so we welcome you to camp in your backyard, your porch, or wherever possible. Just make sure to follow rule number three below.
Rule #2
Keep it small and self-sufficient.
We’re still in a pandemic, so you may want to go solo or camp out in a small group, depending on your local regulations. Carry everything you need and keep it local. Don’t think of this as a party in the woods. Instead, it’s about maintaining our connection to the outdoors and reflecting on what comes next. Another idea is to meet a friend at a rendezvous campsite.
Rule #3
Have a good night outside and do it up!
Enjoy your night, preferably outdoors, but we understand if that’s not an option. Eat some good camp grub. Drink something tasty. Wear funny hats. Bring twinkly lights. Stare at a fire. Look at the stars. Reflect on the changes you made in 2021 and lessons learned. Toast something, or someone. Good Luck. Leave No Trace. And peace out, 2021!
