With help from the locals, Henna Palosaari and Malva Björkman pieced together a three-day, 150-mile bikepacking route through the southern villages of Kolari, above the Arctic Circle in Finland. Most people know Kolari for the fells of Ylläs, but south of the mountains, the landscape changes into a quieter world of forests, lakes, rivers, and small villages connected by long stretches of gravel road.
Their route started and ended at Kolari railway station, linking remote huts, gravel roads, and quiet backcountry landscapes as they explored a lesser-known side of Finland. Instead of chasing big climbs or famous landmarks, their route encouraged them to slow down, spend nights in wilderness huts, and experience a part of Finland that many tourists simply pass through. Watch the video Henna put together from their trip above, and dig into the route below.
