As the Pacific Northwest slowly awakens from its winter slumber, Chris was daydreaming about venturing back into Arizona’s Sonoran Desert. Over the last few years, Chris has ridden several bikepacking routes in the area, and this time, he decided to tackle the short version of the 2023 Pinyons and Pines bikepacking route. Chris didn’t roll out with the grand depart in the event, instead riding it on his own at a slow touring pace to film the adventure and make it a litmus test for a solo outing on the full Arizona Trail, a future goal of his. This video showcases some of the beautiful and diverse terrain of Arizona as well as Chris’ personal struggles along the route. Watch it below, and then scroll down to find the route map and a few photos from the ride.
“As I rode down the final stretch to victory pizza and beer, I finally felt like I passed my own test.”
