Day 1 + 2 Update
by Aaron Arnzen + photos by Kai CaddyThe first two days in the High Country have been an exciting start to this year’s race. Finishers of the 240 mile Northwest Loop have continued to populate the downtown Bentonville finish line at all hours of the day, welcomed in with homemade pizzas and breakfast off the grill.
Zooming out to the Full ARHC race, Ted King remains in the overall lead. Riding in a clockwise direction, Ted first stopped for a sleep in the Witt Springs Community Center just over 200 miles in. Followed by another big push on day two, he clocked almost 430 miles before his second night’s sleep at a Maumelle hotel. Waking up early on this third morning of racing, he’s now rolled over the halfway mark and into Hot Springs at route mile 520 with several hundred miles of Ouachita Mountain riding ahead. Bryan Dougherty currently sits in second place, having an incredibly strong ride now over the 400-mile mark as he continues to inch himself towards Little Rock.
In the women’s race, Michelle Roth had maintained the lead from the start, currently over 330 miles into the route. Christie Tracy trails Michelle by thirty miles, followed by race veteran Katherine Anderson another eighteen miles back. Leigh Bowe, Scarlet Zeigler, & Adela Nochebuena still remain on course, making steady progress.
So far, Josh Kile, Chuck Thibault, and Bond Almand have all scratched.
