The latest release from Edinburgh-based filmmaker Markus Stitz (@reizkultur) documents the 2021 edition of All Points North, a self-supported endurance cycling event that starts and ends in Sheffield in England’s beautiful north. The film, All Points North | Go The Distance, closely follows and shares the experiences of Kinesis rider Rupert Robinson, who was participating for the first time and finished in ninth place in 60 hours and 16 minutes, riding some 1,000 kilometers with 15,000 meters of elevation gain and sleeping less than an hour along the way. Watch the full 17-minute film below, followed by a handful of images and some background on the event, which saw 68 riders at the starting line this year, 45 of whom finished.

“You have to be motivated to do something like this. And if you can achieve things like this, then other things in life can seem quite easy.”—Rupert Robinson

Founded in 2019 and organized by Angela Walker from A Different Gear, an independent non-profit bike shop in Sheffield, All Points North is an event in which riders must plan their own route based around 10 checkpoints that change from year to year. For this year’s event, the most northerly checkpoint was at Upper Coquetdale—close to the Scottish border—where the military firing ranges at Otterburn provided an extra obstacle to riders, who had to carefully plan their rides around the firing times to avoid a long detour. Describing the event, Walker said, “We always envisaged it as a precursor to people who wanted that stepping stone on to something bigger, like the Transcontinental.”
