Reprieve from the hot sun! There’s a short but tall tunnel on the Hamilton to Brantford Rail Trail that offers users shelter from the elements or simply a break from a sweltering mid-afternoon sun. This unique feature is along a little overnighter route I created dubbed the “Great Gabsy” that ties together Guelph, Ancaster, Branford, and Cambridge in a loop.

Last weekend, my wife and I enjoyed an overnighter with a local bikepacking group, Idaho Women’s Bikepacking (partners are welcome too!). Pictured are some riders in our group enjoying a well-earned descent during golden hour just before setting up camp along the Boise River. We had a great time and really enjoyed seeing some new areas of our beautiful state. We ended up riding 120 miles with 10,000 feet of elevation gain with a much-needed burger stop somewhere in the middle!

We cycled over an old pass called Maruko Pass in the mountains of the Tohoku region in the northeast of Japan. It was a very challenging pass that required not only physical strength but also some careful map reading as it was difficult to follow the trail due to the lingering snow.
