On Tuesday, Lachlan Morton set off on an individual time trial on the Colorado Trail with two goals. The first was to raise money for the family of Kenyan professional cyclist Sule Kangangi, who died while riding the Vermont Overland late last month. A GoFundMe was launched recently, and so far they have raised over $80,000 for Sule’s family. Lachlan was also out to challenge his 2019 Colorado Trail time of 3 days, 22 hours, which was impressive considering it was his first and only time riding the entire route.

Shortly after 2 a.m. today, Lachlan wrapped up his Colorado Trail ride in 3 days, 10 hours, 15 minutes—a blazing fast time considering the technical nature of the route and the 75,000 feet of climbing along the way. According to EF Pro Cycling, he clocked 70 hours of moving time and just 12 hours of stopped time during his ride. It was 100°F when he started earlier this week from the northern terminus of the trail, and it dipped down to 30°F through his first night. He rode an impressive 267 miles before taking his first nap. Congrats, Lachlan!
