For today’s installment of Weekend Snapshot, we pack our bags and head to Utah’s Capitol Reef National Park, a remote road in New Zealand, and an island in the Pacific Northwest. See what three of our readers were up to over the weekend and use the form to share a peek at one of your recent trips here…

In this 71st edition of Weekend Snapshot, three folks from our global bikepacking commuter bring us along for rides close to home, sharing a look at a varied mix of landscapes and locales. Today’s post has readers riding in Washington, Utah, and New Zealand, and you can find their trips below, followed by a quick form to share scenes from your rides.

Utah

Weekend Snapshot

I recently set out to complete the Cathedral Valley Loop in central Utah as a solo overnighter. I ran into three others riders from my same town, and we quickly became good friends. The trip became anything but a solo mission as we enjoyed a weekend cranking out miles under humbling red rock cliffs in Capitol Reef National Park.

Orcas Island, Washington

Weekend Snapshot

Seeing the upcoming chance to get out for a weekend in some nice weather with a very small chance of rain, we decided to pack up our bikes and hop on the ferry to Orcas Island in the San Juans. We pedaled around some of the gravel roads on the island and made a mandatory stop at the Brown Bear Bakery for lunch and espresso. We made it to Obstruction Pass State Park toward the end of the day for a singletrack ride into our camp and were greeted by a wonderful sunset along the water.

New Zealand

New Zealand’s Rainbow Road is only open four months of the year. With one week remaining, an after work start and two huts led to a glorious but chilly solo trip with sun, frost, river crossings, and endless vistas.
