The most sinister gravel event in the World is back! Markagram 2024 will be held in Poultney, Vermont, on September 21st and 22nd from dusk until dawn. Learn more about the event here, and prepare for darkness…
“To some, a challenge of epic proportions is an irresistible appeal.” That was the first statement during the introduction to last year’s Markagram in Vermont. It seems that sentiment certainly rang true after a wildly successful inaugural USA edition last October. This week, Search and State announced that “The Most Sinister Gravel Event in the World” is back! For 2024, it’s all set for September 21st and 22nd to be held in Poultney, Vermont, from sunset to sunrise.
The rules of the Markagram are simple: Depart at sunset. Finish by sunrise. Should you manage to complete the roughly 150-mile course designed by Joe Cruz, you will have accomplished a feat only a handful of others have in the past decade, including Shane Kramer, the only person to finish the event last year (see link at bottom of post). The five checkpoints on the course will keep you honest, but they won’t help you!
As Search and State’s Daniel Golden summed up, “Last year’s inaugural USA edition was special, and it wasn’t because of the people who put the event on but because of the people who came to ride it. We had an amazing group last year, and we enjoyed every minute of the weekend with everyone. This year’s edition will be held 9/21 and 9/22 in Poultney, VT, again. Same location, but a new route!” He confirmed that they gathered feedback from participants last year and the route will indeed be different, although not any easier. The team is deep in the creative phase planning the weekend and promise this year will be more sinister than ever. Prepare for Darkness…
