The new Flextail Tiny Sleeping Pad is claimed to be “the world’s lightest sleeping pad with automatic inflation.” It has three R-values to choose from, a unique integrated electric pump, and weighs as little as 456 grams (16.1 ounces). Learn about the IndieGoGo crowdfunding campaign here…
FlexTail is a Chinese outdoor gear brand that specializes in lightweight electric pumps. They make tiny, powerful pumps for stand-up paddleboards, bike tires, and sleeping pads, and other camp accessories like headlamps and outdoor showers, but they’ve never offered a sleeping pad until now.
The Flextail Tiny Sleeping Pad looks like any other, but it’s what you can’t see that sets it apart. Instead of a traditional blow-in inflation valve, FlexTail has integrated its experience with electric pumps to offer automatic inflation and deflation at the push of a button. Inside the valve lives a tiny removable pump that FlexTails calls the AirVortech System (AVS). The pump is rechargeable, can inflate 10+ sleeping pads, and pumps out 100L air/min. If the battery dies, the AVS can be removed, and the pad can be inflated manually.
The pad itself is 9cm (3.5″) thick, is made from 20-denier nylon, and has internal double-sided aluminum film for better durability and insulation. There are three R-values to choose from: 9.5, 5.6, and 3.5. The R 9.5 model, called R09, weighs between 498 grams and 668 grams, depending on the length, and it packs down as small as 11 x 3.9″ (28 x 10cm). The R 5.6 model, called R05, weighs as little as 588 grams, and the smallest version packs down to 10.6 x 6.3″ (27 x 16cm). There are mummy and rectangular versions in both regular and large lengths available. The lightest of the bunch is the R 3.5 model, called R03, which weighs as little as 458 grams and packs down to 11 x 3.9″ (28 x 10cm).
FlexTail has launched an IndieGoGo crowdfunding campaign to kickstart the project with many discounts and deals available for early supporters. Discounts range from 30 to 50% off, including a launch special that includes all three sleeping pad models for just $259 USD (regularly $567). Production is expected to start in March and pads shipped to backers in May 2025.
