The BikeRando BIRI is the world’s first lightweight telescoping bike stand made specifically to prop up loaded touring and bikepacking bikes using a fitting that attaches to the saddle rails. Find details and an overview video here…
While out bikepacking, my first order of business at camp is usually to find a sturdy branch to hold up my bike while unpacking and packing. For folks who want a dedicated solution for bike-propping duties, BikeRando sent us a Dispatch tip letting us know about the BIRI Pro and BIRI Advanced, the world’s first telescoping, portable bike stands. Under an Italian patent, both stands are made in Italy and feature a unique fitting designed to couple with a saddle rail to hold the bike upright.
There are two models. The carbon BIRI Pro weighs 130 grams and can support up to 100kg, and the aluminum BIRI Advanced is aluminum, weighs 170 grams, and can support a loaded bike weighing up to 60kg. Both are 1.8cm in diameter, measure 50cm when collapsed, and can extend up to 110cm. Both also include a clip for anchoring to the bike and a brake band.
Bike tourers have been carrying bike stands for decades, but this might be the most interesting solution I’ve seen. What might make it even more interesting is if you could fabricate a thread-on mount for the bottom of a camera that could nest in the saddle rail U-clip. This would allow video creators to use the BIRI to stabilize their camera when filming.
The BIRI Pro sells for €89 and the BIRI Advanced is €69. Learn more over at BikeRando.com.
