From Sentient Works in the UK comes a fresh prototype we just had to share. Their Project Stepping Stone is a unique blend of existing bikes that results in something entirely new. It’s made for search and rescue missions, accessing places cars can’t get to, and much more…
Sentient Works, one of the UK’s Omnium Bikes distributors and winners of the 2025 Bespoked Apocalypse bike show, are impressing yet again with a prototype that could fit another rather extreme remit. Project Stepping Stone is a cargo bike with front and rear suspension, made from the rear end of a full-squish mountain bike and a crash-damaged cargo bike, the result is something spectacular.

Per Sentient, “We combined a crash damaged Omnium Mini-Max frame with the rear end of a Specialized pitch pro from 2012. We had to drop the top tube, add a seat tube brace and fabricate all the pivot mounts. The headtube and seatube both got shortened, and we made a slimmer rack bed (400mm) that is more singletrack friendly. The results are not really that surprising. It’s so much fun. It’s not perfect but it’s a step in the right direction for us, and there’s likely to be a few more before we are completely satisfied.”

Sentient blew everyone away with their sense of ingenuity and craft through their Bespoked Acpocalypse bike, pictured above, which clearly carries some of the design inspiration, so it’s no surprise that their small crew is at it again. It’s clear they’re more than just a distributor, as they have some great ideas and the skills to execute them. Look out for more on this prototype soon, as they’ll be riding it at an event in September that tests the mettle of cargo bikes in extreme search and rescue scenarios.
