Just announced, the revamped Surly Skid Loader compact electric cargo bike hauls bigger payloads with updated Bosch electronics, dual battery capability, and a 100-pound-capacity rear rack. It looks ready for carless car-camping duties, making carrying more and driving less easier than ever. Details here…

Surly Bikes just updated its carry-all commuter cargo e-bike, the Skid Loader, enhancing performance and adding new features to make it more capable of carrying heavy payloads and give it a more natural ride feel. Designed to navigate tight spaces and haul significant cargo, it comes in three sizes, fits riders from 5’0″ to 6’6″ tall, and includes a robust rear rack with a 100-pound capacity, dropper post, and dual battery capability.

The new model features 27.5” wheels, 2.5″ Extra Terrestrial tires, and updated Bosch Performance Line Cargo electronics for pedal assistance up to 20 miles per hour, plus a front wheel stabilizer and integrated lights for safer, easier cargo handling. With Surly’s custom-butted Natch steel tubeset and a design meant to ride like a regular bike, the Skid Loader offers a versatile and slightly more space-efficient alternative to longtail cargo bikes for urban commutes, errands, and even “car” camping. Looks like a great car replacer to me. Here’s the full build kit:
