Just announced, the new Red Fox Tractor Fork replaces your existing fork and front wheel with a cargo fork and 20″ wheel. Pre-orders have opened, and you can find all the details here…
Although it’s not the first cargo bike conversion kit, the Red Fox Tractor Fork is another excellent option for individuals who want to run car-free errands or breathe new life into a bike that’s collecting dust in the shed. Red Fox in Copenhagen designs and produces handmade steel and titanium bicycles, but they also sell Stridsland frames, which probably played a role in the fork’s development.
The Red Fox Tractor Fork is built around a smaller, 20″ wheel and replaces most any 1 1/8″ steerer fork to add a full cargo platform. Like other similar designs, this configuration moves the weight of the load down, thus lowering the center of gravity and improving handling. It’s designed around a 400mm axle-to-crown measurement, so as long as your existing fork is within +/- 10mm, it should work with your bike.
The Red Fox Tractor Fork is designed for frames with a 72° head tube angle, but it can be used on bikes with different angles—it will simply tilt the rack forward or backward, depending. The platform is pizza box sized (450mm x 350mm) and rated to carry 30kg (66lbs). The fork features a 9 x 100mm quick-release axle, mounts for disc brakes with native 160mm rotors, and clearance for 20 x 2.4″ tires. There are standard bottle mounts on both fork legs, as well as a light mount and fender mounts. The Tractor Fork is made from TIG welded chromoly steel finished with a low-gloss powder coat.
Pre-orders are open now, and racks are expected to be delivered in December. The Tractor Fork costs €559 (~$655 USD), which is on the pricier side, but it’s handmade in Copenhagen and looks sturdy and well-designed. Visit RedFoxCycles.com to learn more.
