Released today, the Traverse Panniers are trail-tested bags. With 20 liters of total storage capacity through a sheathed system, they look like a versatile custom option. Learn more about these new panniers below…
The Paper Roads Traverse Panniers are the latest product from the small bag maker in Auckland, New Zealand. These panniers are designed for the demands of bikepacking and singletrack riding, with what Paper Roads calls a fail-proof rack attachment. The panniers are a two-piece system that attaches to most racks via a rigid panel with Velcro straps at multiple points. The distance between the ends of the slots is 190mm, which fits well on racks like the OMM Divide, Ortlieb Quick Rack, and Tumbleweed Chromoly rack. Once secured, an 8L pannier fits within the sheath and is secured through an adjustable buckle. Each rigid sheath also includes an ULTRA stretch fabric pocket, adding up to 2L of extra capacity.
Like most of their offerings, these panniers are made to order and have a 1-3 week lead time. While the bags can be made from a variety of technical fabrics, Paper Roads created this design specifically to be waterproof. A floating inner liner keeps the bag’s contents away from the elements with a laminated plastic film. The seams don’t line up with those on the outside of the bag, so Paper Roads says water ingress would be very unlikely if there were a failure.
The bags get their name from the 42nd Traverse, one of New Zealand’s more brutal areas. These bags were tested there and in similarly challenging areas, and they’ve earned their name thanks to their hard-wearing features. The Traverse Panniers start at $280 USD and are only sold in pairs. Users can customize exterior fabrics and colors, as well as their desired holster weight.
