Velo Orange Piolet and Polyvalent Now Available as Complete Bikes

While building a frameset around your own selection of components can be incredibly rewarding, not everyone wants to go down that road, and for good reasons. Velo Orange currently has five different framesets available for purchase, all requiring a custom build of some kind, either through your local bike shop or in your own garage. Until now, that is. Just announced, Velo Orange will be offering complete builds of their Piolet and Polyvalent models.

According to Velo Orange, “If you simply want to jump into commuting, touring, randonneuring, trail-riding, and whatever-ing rather than navigating the landscape of component compatibility, we have developed and selected each piece of kit for reliability, durability, and ease of maintenance.” Check out complete component lists for each of the bikes below, and a quick breakdown of what they are best suited for.

Velo Orange Polyvalent Complete Bike

The Polyvalent is Velo Orange’s do-it-all frame. It’s ideal for those interested in a “porteur, randonneur, tourer, or a mixed terrain racer.” In short, it’s a great all-road exploration machine that will handle a little bit of everything. The latest Polyvalent version accepts disc brakes, has clearance for 650B x 47mm and 26 x 2.3″ tires, and offers enough mounts to make you dizzy. The Polyvalent is designed around a 4130 double butted chromoly steel frame that’s perfect for mounting a front rack and mini panniers.

The complete build is available in four sizes (51, 54, 57, 60cm) with either a drop bar or upright (flat bar) handlebar option. Both are built up around a 1×11 SRAM Apex drivetrain, Velo Orange Voyager wheels, Avid BB7 brakes, and tubeless ready 650b x 47 Teravail Rampart tires. The drop-bar Polyvalent complete build kit can be seen below, and the only changes to the flat bar version are the Velo Orange Granola handlebar, Grand Cru brake levers, and Black Cork grips. Both models come stock with Velo Orange pedals and fenders.

Velo Orange Piolet Complete Bike

The Piolet, as Velo Orange describes it, is their, “dependable and simple rough-and-tumble bike. It’s designed for on and off-road touring, gravel, and single track. Load it up with gear for an extended tour, or strip it down for a fun day on the trails!” The complete gets a 1×11 Shimano SLX drivetrain with a 32T chainring and 11-46 cassette… a great option for loaded bikepacking. Deore hydraulic brakes will keep things in check, too. Medium, large, and x-large frames come with 29 x 2.4″ Teravail Honcho tires, while the Small comes with 26 x 2.4″ Maxxis Ardents. A selection of Velo Orange components that are rated for mountain bike use complete the build in a classy and capable build. Just like the Polyvalent, the Piolet is designed around a 4130 double butted chromoly steel frame and has a wealth of mounts to make loading up with racks, bottles, and other accessories easy. Velo Orange claims the Piolet will handle well with both drop bars and flat bars, and the non-suspension-correct fork handles nice with or without a load. Check out the full build kit below.
