The Caldera 250/500 is a 100% self-supported, multi-day, grassroots bikepacking adventure in the spirit of the Tour Divide. Each year the 250 runs via the northern or southern route. This year, the southern gets the honors. The Southern Loop is roughly 256 miles and 31k climbing. The Full 500 is roughly 480 miles and 65k climbing. There is a suggested “Grand Depart” every year, or riders can complete the course as an individual time trial (ITT) at any time.

The Caldera is a tour of the eastern Sierras. The southern 250 starts in Mammoth Lakes, where riders work their ways through some amazing spots, including the Tungsten Hills, Coyote Flats, northern Inyo, White, and Glass Mountains before heading back to Mammoth. For the full 500, riders continue north past Mono Lake, into the Bodie Hills, past Bridgeport and up into the Sweetwater Mountains. After reaching the summit of Mt. Patterson at 11,644′, they head east towards Walker and south towards Buckeye Hot Springs and Twin Lakes towards Virginia Lakes, from which point they descend back towards Mammoth.
