Gravel racing meets western Canada in the Hurt’n Albert’n 550…
UPDATE (Race Recap): The second annual Hurt’n Albert’n 550 brought on plenty of hot weather, dry sand, and freshly groomed gravel roads. Dean Anderson, who placed 2nd at the BC Epic 1000 grand-depart, finished in first place with an unofficial time of 1 day, 11 hours, 57 minutes (on a single speed of course). He was followed closely behind by Tom De Vries with an unofficial time of 1 day, 15 hours, 38 minutes, and Mike Olson who finished with an unofficial time of 1 day, 17 hours, 34 minutes. All finishers completed the course within 3 days, and day 2 saw at least 7 riders back out due to the challenging and dry conditions.
A 550km self-supported, unsanctioned gravel race spanning the Southern Alberta countryside, from the foothills of the Rocky Mountains across the prairie to the Badlands.
The 2017 edition will begin at 6AM on Saturday August 12. Starting and finishing in the rural community of Beiseker, Alberta, the town will also serve as the midway point of the race. There will be formal camping available at the town campground in Beiseker for the nights of Friday August 11 and Saturday August 12. Racers are encouraged to take advantage. There will also be neutral support available at the same location from Saturday afternoon until the last racer is through.
The race offers an opportunity to compete, to challenge oneself, to push limits and to set new bests; while fostering senses of community, friendship, exploration, and adventure.
There is no fee to enter the race. It is also not sanctioned or insured. You are responsible for your own safety. Your decisions while on route are yours, and yours alone. Outcomes of those decisions are yours and yours alone.
