The Idaho Smoke ‘n’ Fire 400 is a 400ish mile self-supported mountain bike race traversing some of Idaho’s diverse geography on two-track, big gravel and dirt Forest Service roads, challenging singletrack, some hike-a-bike, and a few paved roads. This 400ish mile loop features nearly 41,000 feet of climbing with big expanses and big views.

September in Idaho is amazing! The weather is generally great – clear and warm during the day and chilly at night, but it can also be fickle and unpredictable. The trees are starting to change colors and there are fewer people in the backcountry which leads to more wildlife sightings.

The Smoke ‘n’ Fire route travels through remote areas, however, there are sufficient resupply opportunities available. Idaho is a water rich state and much of the route winds along crystal clear rivers, pristine streams and clear lakes. Plus there are many geothermal hot springs created by the forces of nature that are accessible and soakable.

Our annual event begins, and ends, in downtown Boise in historic Hyde Park, typically the second Wednesday of each September. There is no registration fee, no support and no prize money. Live tracking of the event is provided by Trackleaders.

This is a self-supported event so please read the rules and be prepared for the unexpected.
