A 1,000km or 500km self-supported bike packing adventure through the Australian Alps…

Developed in 2016 by Dan Hunt, the Hunt 1000 is a bikepacking route that links Melbourne to Canberra, and traverses some of Australia’s most beautiful high country. The route incorporates amazing campsites and historic alpine huts, provides a limited number of resupply points, and mixes in challenging hike-a-bike sections, as well as river/creek crossings. Each year the route is also changed to create a new adventure and visit new trails through this amazing land.
This year, riders will be pedalling from Canberra to Melbourne and aiming for a grand finish, rather than a grand depart, on November 29th, 2025, in Melbourne. This is not a race but an adventure and your departure date is up to you. The goal is to get to Melbourne…and share a brew with the other riders. This year, there’s also a 500km version that runs from Omeo to Melbourne.
