Approximately 72% of the route is unpaved, and the journey from the South Carolina border westward across the Chattahoochee National Forest and Cohutta Wilderness to the Georgia-Alabama border west of Rome, Ga is a beast.

Billed as an adventure — ‘not a race’ — finishing times are recorded and documented for comparison. But, there is no podium nor prize. Participants are required to register, sign a waiver, and carry a SPOT tracker, but there is no fee to participate.

For 2025, the Grand Depart is flipped so that the route begins at the AL line and ends on the Chattooga River bridge at the SC border.
