Bernauer Heerweg is a self-supported bikepacking adventure along the medieval Bernauer Heerweg from the Spandau Citadel in Berlin to the Baltic Sea port of Szczecin.
The adventure explores one of the oldest ways of the region, older than Berlin itself: the old connection between Spandau and the Barnim, dating back to the Middle Ages, and on to the Baltic Sea. With a total length of approx. 550km and 2000 meters of altitude, the route leads through the Ice Age landscape of the Oderbruch to the Stettiner Haff and back to Berlin. It is almost asphalt-free and passes many natural and cultural monuments such as the Oderberg Fortress , the Stolper Tower or the Krzywy Las (Crooked Forest). The adventure can be completed either as a relaxed bikepacking trip or a demanding ultra-cycling challenge.
