Bikepacking Albania’s WILD Side (2026)
Tirana, Albania 161.5mi (259km)
Join Sisters in the Wild for a seven-day bikepacking adventure for women and non-binary riders through the wild mountains of central Albania…
Sisters in the Wild presents a 7-day WILDER-series gravel bikepacking adventure for women and non-binary riders through the wild mountains of central Albania. This challenging expedition explores remote trails, technical terrain, and authentic cultural immersion far beyond the usual tourist routes, beginning and ending in the capital Tirana before heading straight into the backcountry.
Designed for experienced off-road riders, this trip features five days of challenging riding with daily distances of 50-70km and significant elevation gain (1,100-1,650m most days) across approximately 60% off-road terrain. The route combines well-maintained forest gravel roads with steep, loose, and technical sections including washed-out channels, larger rubble, and occasional single-track trails. Riders should be confident with challenging descents and prepared for some hike-a-bike sections. The route passes through historic villages on centuries-old tracks, creating moments that feel like stepping back in time.
Accommodations alternate between comfortable hotels and traditional local guesthouses, with the highlight being stays with local families—friends of the Albanian partner guides who offer authentic insight into both modern and traditional mountain life. With a bilingual local support guide, riders gain unique cultural perspectives and genuine connections with the matriarchs of remote households. Most meals are included (even lunches), balancing the physical challenge with rich cultural experiences and warm Albanian hospitality.
With British Cycling and First Aid qualified Sisters in the Wild guides alongside local support in a 4×4 vehicle, riders have professional backup while exploring some of Albania’s most remote terrain. The option to add luggage transfer makes this accessible to those who prefer not to carry full bikepacking gear. This is Albania at its wildest—remote gravel trails through landscapes rarely seen by tourists, big climbs, technical riding, and unforgettable connections with people and place in Europe’s newest adventure destination.
