Much like the CTR, the AZT, and the Tour Divide, the 5th annual Black Hills Expedition is a self-supported, self-timed ITT (Individual Time Trial) bikepacking race. We provide a route description and GPX file, a suggested start time, and a list of results. There is no registration, no entry fee, and no support.

While there’s blacktop, gravel, and grass-covered fields, most of the route is awesome Black Hills singletrack. Seven percent of the course is hike-a-bike over super rocky trails. There are 50+ stream crossings, many fallen trees to hop, and of course, some boulders to jump, climb, or scale in some rare cases. With 50,000 feet of climbing, it is safe to say you are either going up or going down. (Greg Gleason, salsacycles.com)

This route takes riders on a whirlwind tour of the area’s most famous attractions like Mount Rushmore, Custer State Park, and the Crazy Horse Memorial.
