The East Idaho Epic is a 430-mile self-supported, single-stage, bikepacking event. This route showcases remote gravel roads throughout various picturesque landscapes in south east Idaho and a bit of western Wyoming. Beginning and ending in Idaho Falls, Idaho, you will climb 30,000 feet, ride through historic settlements, Oregon Trail history, both closed and operating mines, stunning mountain scenery, forests, grasslands, wildlife refuges and charming small towns. You will see geothermal hot springs as well as an 80 foot carbonated geyser (not geothermal – powered by pressurized carbonated water!) several lakes, pretty rivers and abundant wildlife.

The route is 78 percent gravel, 22 percent paved. While most of the gravel is fast and smooth, there are sections of rough and rocky gravel roads, steep climbs and descents, so riders may consider larger tire sizes. The event takes place during the general hunting season, so riders should wear visibility clothes and be well lit at night. The Wyoming section is just outside of the Federal maps for grizzly bear habitat, so consider carrying bear spray.

Also, a shorter option, the East Idaho Endeavor, will be run concurrently, sharing much of the trail with the Epic. This option is 260 miles, with 20,000 feet of climbing, 70 percent gravel, 30 percent paved.

Both events have no cost, no prizes and absolutely no support.
