This is the second annual grand departure for the Great Northern Bikepacking Route that begins in Victoria, British Columbia and finishes at Cape Spear, Newfoundland. Yes, that is a very long way – roughly 8,500 miles (13,700 kilometers) consisting of a mix of gravel roads, forest paths, singletrack, rail trails, and just the necessary pavement. Riders, however, can choose the distance they want to travel on the route and do not need to commit to finishing the complete trip across North America. And everyone can decide for themselves if they want to go fast or move along at a leisurely touring pace.

The GNBR traverses 10 Canadian provinces and 3 U.S. states and in doing so takes riders through a huge range of landscapes ranging from the towering Rockies to the fertile prairies to the heavily forested Appalachians to the salty Atlantic coast. It should be considered a challenging mixed surface route and more mountain bike/adventure riding oriented than a pure gravel ride.

This is not an organized or sanctioned event in any way.
