Jumbo Wild 600
British Columbia, Canada 415.6mi (668km)
Created by Svein Tuft, the inaugural Jumbo Wild 600 follows a challenging 669km route through the wild heart of British Columbia’s Kootenays.
Jumbo Wild 600 is a demanding, self-supported bikepacking route through the wild heart of British Columbia’s Kootenays. Covering approximately 669 kilometres with over 12,600 metres of elevation gain, the route links together historic rail grades, remote forestry roads, rugged mountain passes, and small mountain communities. Riders will traverse some of the most spectacular landscapes in the province before returning to Nelson, where the journey began.
This is not a route for first-time bikepackers. Jumbo Wild is designed for experienced riders who are comfortable navigating long distances, extended periods between services, changing mountain weather, and the physical and mental demands of true backcountry travel. A defining feature of the route is the mandatory bike carry over Jumbo Pass, where riders must shoulder their bikes for approximately 8 kilometres. This requirement reflects a commitment to respecting the landscape, minimizing impact on sensitive alpine terrain, and acknowledging the stewardship efforts that help protect this remarkable place. More than a race, Jumbo Wild is an invitation to move thoughtfully through the wild, embracing challenge, self-reliance, and a shared appreciation for the communities and landscapes of the Kootenays.
