400’ish mile bikepacking loop in the heart of Southeastern Idaho and Northern Utah’s Mormon country. The route parallels the Pioneer Historic Byway. Fitzgerald’s Bicycles (Idaho Falls, ID) is the favorite start location with a 1/2 way stop off at Joy Ride Bicycles (Logan, UT) before returning to Idaho Falls. The route rides to two different hot springs Lava Hot Springs at mile 92 and Maple Grove Hot Springs two times at miles 120.5 and 232.5 for a second time. Please respect all private properties. Loads of camping is available on public lands in between.
Mile 142 in the town of Preston, ID is the home of Napolean Dynamite. Miles 270-301 is mostly private lands with the exception of the county road you will ride on. Plan your camping accordingly. Miles 335-390 has limited water. Stock up at the Grey’s Lake Refuge Headquarters or the LDS church at mile 335 and carry all that you can. Stock up again at the few creeks you cross from here wherever possible. Either direction is super sick. Ride on!
