The San Juan Ultracruise is a self-supported bikepacking challenge that links the best and sometimes hardest trails around Durango, Colorado…
The San Juan Ultracruise rolls out 6/19 from the vicinity of Durango, CO. This is a bike ride with friends. The goal here is to share the experience of feeling small in the mountains with others, whatever that looks like. Take your time and fraternize. Sit in the bushes and eat pop tarts together. Try hard and chase each other down in the dead of night.
This is a self supported ride, and standard self supported guidelines and ethics apply. Do what feels right and fair to others participating. The route will be available at a later date, but in the style of an Ultracruise, it will prioritize linking the best and sometimes hardest trails in these mountains. The route will be 150-200 miles in length, with lots of climbing. Some of these miles will feel very backcountry. Expect steep, technical, and faint-no trail at times, though there will be many miles of “nice” trail mixed in as well. Be warned, this will be an incredibly hard bike ride. Self rescue is YOUR responsibility.
This is summer in the mountains, we likely will be out ahead of monsoon season, but anything can happen up there. Be prepared for extreme weather conditions. We all know how fun it is to charge over a high mountain pass in a lightning storm, but please, use good judgment and take care of yourself.
There will be time bonuses for completing certain silly tasks on or near the route.
A letter of intent will be required of each participant to claim your spot on the ride. No registration fee or prizes for finishing. Participation will be capped at 60 people.
