Shores & Switchbacks 2027

Shores & Switchbacks – On the road, on your own. At the finish, together.

Shores & Switchbacks is an unsupported ultra gravel event around Lake Constance, the Bregenzerwald and the Nagelfluh range. One loop, one stage, 400–600 km and 7,000–10,000 metres of climbing, ridden entirely under your own power. Lakeshore, forest and mountains sit close together here, and that is exactly the point.

Unsupported means unsupported. Navigation, repairs, food and sleep are yours to organise. No support crew, no personal support vehicles, no prepared depots. Public infrastructure such as shops, cafés, accommodation and bike workshops is fair game as long as it is open to everyone. No drafting for solo riders; registered duos may ride together. Safety comes before results, and everyone is treated with respect.

The weekend
Thursday, 3 June: Riders Briefing in the afternoon, a carb-loading meal and an optional social ride.
Friday, 4 June: Start in the morning. Trackers on.
Sunday, 6 June: Cut-off at noon, followed by a shared closing meal at Base Camp. Riders who finish later are just as welcome.

Base Camp
Start, finish and meeting point are at Ruderclub Lindau (Aeschacher Ufer 31, 88131 Lindau), right on the Kleiner See. We aim to offer a limited number of simple camping spots nearby; details will follow with registration. Friends and family are welcome. Beyond the shared meals there is no catering on site, but there is plenty to do around the corner.

A small field, on purpose
This is not meant to be a mass event. At least 50 % of the starting places are reserved for FLINTA*; unclaimed places will be released transparently later. You can start solo or as a duo (one tracker per duo). Live tracking and a public leaderboard let everyone else follow the dots.

Registration
