Celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2026, Thunderbolts Adventure is one of Australia’s longest-running and most iconic gravel events. Based in the town of Gloucester, NSW, the event serves as a gateway to the rugged Barrington Tops – a region defined by ancient rainforests, remote ridgelines, and demanding vertical gain. The 2026 edition marks a decade of “The Monument,” a premier 173km loop featuring 3,500m of climbing through 65% prime gravel, alongside shorter distances like The Colt (95km) and The Remington (40km) for those seeking a more social experience.
The event is built on a “community-first” philosophy, prioritizing atmosphere and inclusivity over pure racing. For the 10th anniversary, Graveleur has partnered with the Cycling Development Foundation (CDF) to support the Laverton Cycling Project, a grassroots initiative that provides bikes and mentoring to youth in remote Western Australia.
Logistically, the 2026 event offers a level of support rarely seen in remote Australian bikepacking events. Our partners at SRAM will provide on-road neutral mechanical support to keep riders rolling through the most isolated sectors of the Barrington Tops. The event village in Gloucester serves as the hub for the weekend, featuring tech displays from SRAM and Easton, a massive prize pool including gear from POC, and a vibrant post-ride “party” at the pub where stories of the day will be shared over local hospitality.
The timing of the 2026 edition is particularly significant, falling on the ANZAC Day long weekend. The event begins with a solemn 5:00 AM Dawn Service in the heart of Gloucester on Saturday, April 25, followed by a mass rollout. This unique start allows the gravel community to pay their respects and experience a sense of collective gratitude before tackling one of the most beautiful and uncompromising gravel courses in the Southern Hemisphere.
