The Super 8 is a bikepacking route in the shape of an 8 that connects the best dirt roads throughout Vermont. The route uses public rights-of-way ranging from brief sections of pavement to remote and rugged ancient roads, as well as recreational trails including rail trails and singletrack. The Super 8 features many of Vermont’s famous Class 4 roads, which can be very rocky and rugged. You should expect plenty of climbing, some overgrown roads, some washed out and loose terrain, and lots of cruising on classic Vermont dirt.

Grand Depart riders will start in Montpelier at the central node of the 8 and have 3 mileage options: North Lobe (260 mi.), South Lobe (380 mi.), or Full 8 (640 mi). Rule of thumb is 1,000 ft climbing per 10 miles. Any direction is welcome, but by convention the South Lobe is ridden clockwise, the North Lobe counter-clockwise, and the Full 8 is south lobe first. Grand Depart riders are encouraged to start in Montpelier, VT, although simultaneous starts in Brattleboro, VT or Derby Line, VT are also welcome.
