Details on the 2020 Ruta del Jefe event, a beautiful 125-mile route in southern Arizona, have just been announced, including a grand depart for those interested in a self-supported tour. Check out the details, plus the 2019 event video here…
This year’s Ruta del Jefe event, based out of southern Arizona, was primarily a self-supported race following the Sky Islands Odyssey bikepacking route. Coincidentally, this past weekend Lucas and I rode a portion of the route, and it’s an incredibly special place. For 2020, organizer Sarah Swallow has announced a few changes, including a grand depart for those not interested in the race aspect, but wanting to tour the route. There’s also a 55-mile gravel ride option, as well as a 12-mile ride / run.
Registration fees come in the form of donations, which can be directed to the following southern Arizona advocacy groups: Indivisible Tohono, No More Deaths, Center of Biological Diversity, Save The Scenic Santa Ritas, The Arizona Trail Association, or the Appleton-Whittell Research Ranch.
Check out the event listing for more details, and don’t miss the 2019 Ruta del Jefe video below.
