Ortlieb just announced a major update to their bikepacking bag lineup with new colours, features, and several brand new bags, including a roll-top frame bag and fork-mounted cargo bags—all waterproof, of course. Find details and photos here…
Back in 2016, Ortlieb first announced their foray into the bikepacking bag world. Logan had a chance to take a first look at both the Seat-Pack and Handlebar-Pack at the time, the biggest plus being that they’re 100% waterproof, perfect for all-weather bikepacking. Then in 2018, Ortlieb released a second wave of bikepacking-specific bags, followed by their Gravel-Pack panniers. Now, Ortlieb is moving forward with a major update to their line of bikepacking bags for 2021, including new features, colours, and some brand new bags as well.
What’s New?
Ortlieb has releases several new bags, including two different styles of fork-mounted bags and a roll-top closure frame bag. Find details on each below.
Ortlieb Fork-Pack
The new Ortlieb Fork-Pack is a quick-release waterproof fork bag with a roll-top closure. It uses their new Quick-Lock S (QLS) attachment system that makes it easy to install and remove, and although it’s designed with forks with bosses, can be mounted to fork legs without mounts as long as they have a consistent diameter (e.g. suspension forks).

Ortlieb Frame-Pack RC / Frame-Pack RC Toptube
The new Ortlieb Frame-Pack RC and RC Toptube frame bags take the popular roll-top design we first saw perfected by Porcelain Rocket with their 52Hz frame bags and introduce it into their line of frame bags. Their slim roll-top closure is secured with three silicone rings, the velcro straps are individually interchangeable, and they are available in a full frame bag version in 4L or 6L and a smaller half frame bag option that provides 4L of storage. Available January 2021.

Ortlieb Fork-Pack Plus
The Ortlieb Fork-Pack Plus, available January 2021, shares many of the same features as the new Fork-Pack above but is made from a highly durable Cordura fabric instead of PU-coated Nylon, but uses the same Quick-Lock S adapter for mounting on forks with or without bosses. Otherwise, the Fork-Pack Plus is the same size and just slightly heavier, but will be available in black or signal red / dark chili.

What’s Updated?
Besides the new bags above, Ortlieb has also updated all of their other bags. Most notably, they are all offered in a matte black colour now, and most of the hardware has been updated as well. See more below.
Ortlieb Seat-Pack
The Ortlieb Seat-Pack is still 100% waterproof, has an air release valve, and is available in two different sizes (11L / 16.5L). The roll-top closure has new tape, there is now a manual puller to release air on the valve, and both sizes comes with luggage straps on top for additional storage.

Ortlieb Handlebar-Pack / Accessory-Pack
The Ortlieb Handlebar-Pack now features their air bleed valve for easier packing, new hooks on the front of the bag for adding their accessory pouch, and comes in matte black. The 3.5L Accessory-Pack uses larger 20mm webbing, costs $80 USD and is also now available in matte black.

Ortlieb Frame-Pack / Top Tube Frame-Pack
Ortlieb’s full and half frame bags now have the main zipper on the right side (drive side) and interchangeable velcro straps across the top of the bag. Like the rest of the lineup, they are also only available in matte black.

Ortlieb’s Cockpit-Pack, Atrack BP backpack, and Gravel-Pack panniers have also been updated to the new matte black colour way, but haven’t received any noteworthy changes for 2021. Although Ortlieb’s website hasn’t been updated to show the new line yet, you can keep an eye on Ortlieb.com in the coming weeks to learn more.
