Announced today, Shimano has redesigned a total of 15 different footwear models, from their entry level mountain bike shoes all the way to the top-end gravel race shoe. Right in the middle, and perhaps most applicable from a bikepacking perspective, are their ME7 and ME5 shoes. Both receive complete redesigns for 2021, including an updated outsole rubber and new sizing options. Find details and photos of both below.
2021 Shimano ME7 Shoes
The new Shimano ME7 (Mountain Enduro Race) Shoe receives Shimano’s unique new last design with extra toebox volume to accommodate a wider range of foot shapes without affecting shoe length. The ME7 is now available in a Volume+ and Volume+ Wide last, and is available in sizes 40 to 48. The new Michelin OCX3 rubber outsole compound is said to increase grip and stability on all types of terrain, and the ME7 retains the same low-profile buckle and quick lace retention system.
