Shimano just expanded their off-road shoe lineup with new all-mountain and gravel designs and a new ULTREAD sole that promises better grip and longer durability. Learn more here…

Shimano’s latest footwear update includes a completely new sole design, updated all-mountain models, and new color options in their top-end gravel range. The new ULTREAD sole technology supposedly increases durability and grip thanks to a precise tread design and proprietary new rubber blend. We were pretty impressed with their previous tread upgrade in the GR7 shoe and will be interested to see how this differs. ULTREAD can be found on Shimano’s more gravity-focused shoes, including the new GR902 flat-sole gravity shoes, the redesigned GR7 shoes, and their new line of XC shoes. Find details on a few of the most interesting models below.

Shimano AM9

The AM9 has been revamped in the fit department to offer more control and protection. It has a little more room in the toe box, with a wide instep strap to lock your foot in place. It still has the large flexible strap to keep debris out of the lace area, and also gets the new sole rubber compound from previous models. The AM9 is offered in Black or Navy Blue and retails for $170 USD.

Shimano AM5

The Shimano AM5 is styled after the AM9 but comes in at a lower price point. It has the same rubber compound, asymmetric ankle protection, and fit, but loses the lace guard and instep strap for a slightly more casual look. The AM5 is also available in both women’s and men’s sizing and retails for $115 USD. The AM5 comes in Black or Olive (men’s) and Aqua Blue (women’s).

Limited Edition RX8 Gravel Race Shoes

Two limited-edition RX8 Gravel Race Shoe colors are also part of their fall release. The new Bonze RX8 colorway is inspired by “golden hour rides and rocky desert landscapes” and is available as a unisex offering while the women’s specific Yellow Gold RX8 option features a narrower fit for small to mid-sized feet. The RX8 is one of the lightest off-road shoes in Shimano’s line-up, weighing in at just 265 grams (size 42). The RX8 shoes retail for $260 USD.
