The Rangefinder was introduced into Salsa’s lineup in 2020 as a budget-friendly aluminum hardtail. As it happens, it also packs in a lot of bikepacking-friendly features. As far as sub $2,000 mountain bikes go, it offers a lot and would make an exceptional entry-level bikepacking bike, or for anyone looking to get into mountain biking.

While it doesn’t look like the Rangefinder has received any major updates for 2022, Salsa released a whole suite of new color options and build kits with prices ranging from $1,599 all the way down to $1,049. All models are based around a lightweight 6061-TG aluminum frame, internal cable routing, dropper post compatibility, and clearance for up to 29 x 2.6″ or 27.5 x 3.0″ tires. The 2022 Rangefinder maintains a 15mm front thru-axle, 12mm quick-release rear axle, and a 73mm threaded bottom bracket. It also has downtube and top tube bottle mounts and rear rack compatibility with the addition of their Rack-Lock seatpost mount. Salsa offers four levels of builds with either 27.5+ or 29″ wheels in five sizes (XS, S, M, L, XL), fit for a range of riders.
